Bamberg is not only my beautiful hometown, but also a real pearl in our picturesque Franconia. Artfully restored half-timbered houses line the narrow cobblestone streets of the old town, high above the rooftops, as in ancient Rome on one of the seven hills of the city built, enthroned majestically the Altenburg, and even a trip to (Little) Venice you can make here in Bamberg. Not to forget the mighty cathedral, in whose historic courtyard even scenes for famous movies like “The Three Musketeers” have been filmed. Your sightseeing breaks are best spent in a typical Franconian cellar with a refreshing beer and a hearty snack. Doesn’t that all sound absolutely perfect?!
The old town of Bamberg is wonderfully manageable. Most of the sights and recommended places you can easily reach on foot, but also city tours with the Segway are now offered more and more and are great fun. I would like to recommend a walk up to the Altenburg, because from up there you have a really fantastic view over the city. For the simple route of about 4 kilometers you should plan about 2 hours with photographing and enjoying the landscape. Before you head back down later, you can treat yourself to a creamy cappuccino or an ice cream in the small café in the atmospheric castle courtyard. By the way, the rose garden right next to the cathedral also offers you a dreamlike view, paired with the beguiling scent of over 4,500 roses!

One of my favorite walks in Bamberg leads from the old boathouse in the direction of the old town. Always along the Regnitz you pass the most beautiful houses, the Villa Concordia, the Old Town Hall with its artistic painting, the Upper Bridge and the Lower Bridge with the great views of Little Venice, as well as the probably most crooked house of the entire Old Town.

Especially in summer During a city trip, there’s nothing better than sitting outside in the sun in a cozy café and enjoying a creamy latte macchiato, is there? You really do have countless options for this in Bamberg’s old town. In the lively Austraße, for example, one café follows the next. But finally, I would like to tell you about my absolute favorite café, namely Villa Remeis. Of course, it is also located on top of a hill. So if you’re a lover of great views like I am, Bamberg will catapult itself right into your heart with playful ease!
